Sushi
What would it be like to live without refrigeration albeit the need to keep the catch of the day still edible for days to come? This need actually influenced the development of the ever popular Japanese related sushi. Rice that is fermented in vinegar has been known to ferment and preserve the crustacean better. The rice used to be fermented with vinegar used to be thrown upon the consumption of the crustaceans. However, poverty, famine and drought have influenced the people to reduce food wastage and consume the vinegar soaked rice. From there, the taste of sushi was further enhanced. And, from there, sushi became a staple food for the people of Japan.
