Origins of Kamameshi
Kamameshi literally translates to “pot rice”. The origins of this dish dated a long way back where the Kanto big earthquake drove Japanese to poverty and famine. It was believed that kamameshi was invented after a restaurant owner brought remnants of leftovers into a big pot (kama) to allow the survivors of the earthquake to ease their hunger.
This dish might take at least 20minutes to cook but the tantalizing contents that appease your taste buds will make you realize it is worth the wait.
Kamameshi Dishes at Watami includes the Kaisen and Tori Pot Rice and the Unagi Pot Rice.
